Reflecting on 2013, it has been a year of growth for Chance to Play. To highlight some of the key moments, let’s start with the distribution of recycled soccer uniforms and equipment through Urban Angels-St. Michaels Hospital in Toronto. Coordinating with Sarah Fernandez, we were able to deliver gently used soccer uniforms for children in The Philippians. As well, C2P coordinated with John and Bea to distribute soccer uniforms and recycled soccer balls to Puerto Plata Dominican Republic. Our last destination was sending soccer balls to Nicaragua. Children’s faces lit up with smiles and cheers of joy was the message we received back home.
In partnership with the Georgetown Ontario Soccer Club for the third year, we were able to collect an additional gently used soccer uniforms, balls, soccer shoes, and coaches’ equipment during their Closing Day in September. It is the outpouring the soccer community, that we are able to continue the Play it Forward Soccer Program in developing countries for the 2014 year.
It was a pleasant surprise to receive an email from Graham Cocking, Executive Director of the Burlington Soccer Club notifying us of a large soccer donation. Throughout the past two years, the club members and players have been collecting gently used soccer gear. Volunteers picked up the donation in September 2013, filling a 14sq ft Uhaul truck! Due to size of this donation, our storage space was busting at the seams and needed to expand. I would like to thank Paul for graciously offering space for all our Soccer donations. My garage is now empty again.
Merry Christmas
